The stone has arrived Pizza 2/27 is ON

Don't forget to RSVP in the comments if you are coming. It helps those who want to avoid you know which days not to come without having to have the awkward conversation of: "pssst. is Kevin coming? Yes? Oh, then I am OUT!" I mean seriously, what did the guy ever do to you all? As far as I can tell, he looks to be getting along perfectly well with this lobster.

I wonder how the lobster would taste on the pizza. Bring one and find out! I am a little sad that the pizza will conflict with the good ol' Friday Fish Fry. Hmm... I wonder how that would taste on a pizza. Do you ever have these thoughts? Wondering about random pizza toppings? The Keenan house is a fine place to explore those inner thoughts. Well, as long as you can soul search and play cards. Then you are invited.

The beer is in kegs 2/27 is on

Your warning: amateur beer making in progress. Apparently they let you make beer before you are old enough to drink it. Who knew?

On tap: Heffe, ESB, Cider, Purple Juice, Birch beer
In bottle - lots the Cellar's is moving and at 30% off, we had to shop. This is where bribing Brendan comes into play. Too bad someone cleared out the $8-15 bottles of wine - our stock is getting dangerously low.

Anyway, Aya made it to town and she is great. She said she is excited to meet people, so your chances to chat with her and ask her how crazy it is to live with us are 2/27 and 3/13. Make your plans accordingly.

We are tracking down a temporary pizza stone so we can use two, the electric one and one TBD - we will have a bake off.

Reminder - No Pizza tonight 2/13

Brendan says that it is really because I am too afraid to host a party on Friday the 13th because things broke and people nearly died the last time we threw a party. Really, the 13 doesn't mean any more to me then the 14th does.

So... order your own pizza, think about what makes the pizza you pay for so great, and lets replicate it. Me? I am hoping for one of those east side pizzas like at Romolos. TONS of cheese and little square pizzas. Greasy, hard to eat. In fact, as it cools, some of the pieces get as hard to bite as a big piece of sushi.

Cut my squares small and only feed me sashimi and I will be happy.

Recap 2/6/09

I can tell by the overwhelming number of e-mails that I have received that everyone is dying to know how Pizza Friday went last week. Well, wait no longer - the recap has arrived.

Overall impression: Awesomely deadly.

Deadly? Yep. Turns out that Brendan is awesome (but you knew that right?) and listened when I said that there were not enough scallops in my life the other day. So what did he bring home for a pizza topping? No, not just scallops, but scallops on sale. $4.99/lb scallops.

If this is my favorite food- how did it turn deadly? Well, turns out. Two of our two guests for pizza friday - allergic to shell fish. That is OK right? just avoid the AMAZING corn and scallop pizza (hey- don't blame me that you missed it - you were invited). Well.. turns out that I was "helping" in the kitchen and browned the sausage in the scallop pan to save on dishes. Apparently, allergic is allergic and we had some prickly tongues. Oops.

Because of our failures as hosts, (poisoning the guests does count as a failure in Martha's eyes) something had to give. We had to be punished in some way. So what did we sacrifice? Pain of all pains it was the pizza stone. The very thing that makes the pizza good in the first place.

The recap is late because I wanted to be sure the new pizza stone was on order, apologies were made and I can reassure folks that 2/27 pizza night is on. Twenty five gallons of beer is currently in fermentation, a new stone is working it's way to me and Aya, our exchange student is going to be welcomed to the fiesta by all of you.

Start planning your toppings.

Pizza Friday Cancelations 2/13 and 2/20

Oh no! We just got into the routine of things and I have to make cancellations.

Both Friday Feb 13 and Friday Feb 20 have to be canceled. I know right? Those were the days you were totally going to come. Well, that just means that you have to find time on either this Friday the 6th or Friday the 27th of February.

We are going to the fair city of Des Moines for the weekend of valentines day for a romantic get away with... the Keenan family. Not that the Keenan's aren't an enjoyable lot - just seems funny to get a hotel room with your in-laws when others will be spending the weekend smooching. Oh well. I don't believe in valentines day anyway. And Feb 20th? The Swarm decided that they wanted to mix it up a little and have one Friday night game in a season of Saturday's. Really Swarm? I thought we were much tighter then that. Infact, we might be. I will just email the owner AGAIN and ask him for one more small favor.

Feburary 27th will be exciting. It will be the first pizza Friday for our exchange student Aya. She will be in town for a month staying with us. Plan your pizza innaguration accordingly.

Sorry!

Friday 2/6/09

On a separate note for those facebook initated, I mentioned that there weren't enough card players in my life. Suddenly everyone came out of the woodwork proclaiming their love for 52 spotted pieces of paper. Why have we been talking all of these years when we could have been silently engaging in games of skill?

Ok, I am really not that competitive about it, but I do love a game of cards. I figure, If people are already coming for pizza and drinks - why not set up a table for cards? I have all the supplies.

So, instead of highlighting the topic I am bringing this week, I am highlighting the fun. Cards will be played this week. If it has to be crazy 8's for the kids fine. But I am thinking more along the lines of Euchre, 500, or even phase 10. I could even get crazy and support a domino game or two.

What do you think? Who is in?

Recap 1/30/09

Success! Hopefully everyone else feels that way too. Future events plan to have a lot less smoke, hopefully no alarms going off, but aside from that - pizza was had, people were fed, drinks were poured.

My favorite pizza of the night was a huge surprise to me, but the award goes to the Seelen family for bringing the sauerkraut and kielbasa for their recreation of a Pizza Ranch pizza. I was skeptical, but it was tasty!

I think that the final count was 14 people for pizza. We still had left overs- so don't think that a large crowd means that you won't get fed. This is the Keenan household for goodness sake.

I took a photo of the left over pizza, but it looks just like that - left over pizza. Nothing that would entice you to jump on the bandwagon sweeping the cities. Pizza Friday. Invite yourself. Bring a friend. Just don't forget to RSVP in the post for the coming week.
